​​​​​​As ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Health employees it is important we don’t behave in ways that could cause the community to lose trust in our commitment to provide safe care to all people.  

Use of social media

​When using social media, you must remain mindful of your responsibilities as a ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Health staff member, as any content you post can also reflect on ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Health, including your organisation or hospital, and your colleagues. 

The words you use and views you express can have an impact on the trust of the community in our services. And when in uniform, remember you are representing your profession, your colleagues and ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Health. â€‹

It is vital we maintain that trust. People of all backgrounds, cultures and beliefs must feel welcome, respected and safe for us to be able to provide care to anyone who needs it.  ​

Your responsibilities

​​When you make any comment on social media you are making public comment, and your obligations under the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Health Code of Conduct and ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Government Code of Ethics and Conduct for ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Government Sector Employees apply.

ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Health staff and contractors should only make an official comment when authorised to do so. You can be in breach of the Code of Conduct should you represent ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Health without approval.

All staff must avoid conduct that could bring ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Health or any of its staff, patients or clients into disrepute, including when using social media, regardless of whether you are on or off duty.

ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Health supports the responsible, respectful use of social media, and the right of all people to express their views, support causes or engage in public debate, including advocating in relation to their roles.

However, it is important to remain mindful of your responsibilities as a public servant when engaging in debate or comment on political, social or other issues in your capacity as a private citizen or ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Health employee.
