ϳԹ budget investing in healthier families and communities

20 June 2025

The Minns Labor Government is supporting healthier families and communities with more than $83 million to boost maternity care and $37.5 million to expand the ϳԹ Mobile Dental Van program, as part of the 2025-26 ϳԹ Budget.

Increased maternity support

Women and their babies will benefit from expanded support with an investment of more than $83 million for maternity care, family care centres and vaccination. This investment in the 2025-26 Budget includes:

  • $44.8 million to increase access to midwifery continuity of care models, including an additional 53 full-time equivalent midwives in regional ϳԹ.
  • Enhanced training for clinicians in respectful maternity care.
  • Enhanced antenatal education and consumer information for patients.
  • $26.8 million to maintain seven family care centres, five mobile services and the Macksville residential unit, all in regional and rural ϳԹ.
  • $5.7 million to support free vaccination to pregnant women to protect them and their babies from whooping cough, influenza and respiratory syncytial virus infection.
  • $250,000 for virtual paediatrician support to general practitioners across ϳԹ.

Approximately 90,000 women give birth in ϳԹ each year. This investment in maternity care will improve experiences for women and their children during pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period and lead to better lifelong outcomes.

Expanded public dental services

The Minns Labor Government is increasing access to dental care for people in rural and regional communities through a $37.5 million investment in the state’s Mobile Dental Van program.

People in regional ϳԹ, Aboriginal people, disadvantaged children and communities with a high-risk of dental disease will receive free education, dental care and oral health hygiene products as part of this investment. As many as 7,500 additional people per year are expected to receive care from the expanded ϳԹ Health Mobile Dental Van program, which will run in addition to the popular ϳԹ Health Primary School Mobile Dental Program and other ϳԹ public dental services.

Mobile dental vans are staffed by experienced ϳԹ Health oral health clinicians and are fully equipped dental clinics which can deliver a broad scope of dental treatment closer to home for patients who don’t live close to a public dental clinic. The vans are already operational across 11 local health districts in ϳԹ, with the additional vans to be provided to targeted areas with higher levels of disadvantage, further distance to travel for dental treatment and poor oral health outcomes.

Supporting healthier families and communities continues the Minns Labor Government’s plan to build a better ϳԹ in the 2025-26 ϳԹ Budget. Increasing access to dental care and supporting women and their babies are key to the Minns Labor Government’s comprehensive plan to deliver better essential services that people rely on and build a better ϳԹ.
