Supporting information

For parents and carers

This calculator helps health professionals see how they are growing, and there are many other factors that also affect a child’s health and development. It’s best to visit your GP or healthcare provider to discuss your child’s health.

A three-step brief intervention model to support cliniciansâ¶Ä‹

Assessing children's growth is important for providing quality care.

The three-step Ask, Advise, Help (AAH) brief intervention model can support clinicians to deliver routine growth assessments for children. It can also help to track development, identify risks, address health concerns, and ensure timely support .

Tips

  • Always practice good clinical judgement. If you think a growth assessment or conversation might be too stressful for a child or their family, it’s okay to reconsider doing it.
  • Talk in a positive and encouraging way.
  • When giving advice, be supportive and kind, without being judgmental.
